Dubai is actively working on the first tram project Al Sufouh Tramway

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, presented to the local and foreign media the first Dubai tram project Al Sufouh Tramway, the design of the tram trains and the station on which he will move. Together with Sheikh Mohammed, the presentation was attended by Sheikh Hamdan bin Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai.

During his visit to the tram depot located on the Jumeirah Walk, to inspect progress on the project, Sheikh Mohammed approved the interior design of the tram cars, as well as several other initiatives undertaken by the Dubai Committee for Roads and Transport (RTA). In addition, Sheikh Mohammed got acquainted with the route along which the first tram in Dubai will travel. According to Mattar Muhammad Al Thayer, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Executive Director of RTA, the total length of the tram track will be 14.7 km. The cost of the first phase of the construction of the tram line, which will be 10.7 km long, is estimated at 4 billion dirhams (US $ 1.09 billion). The tram starts at the Jumeirah Walk stop, and ends at the Mall of the Emirates.

The implementation of the first stage of the project also includes the construction and decoration of 13 out of 19 stops, and the launch of eight out of 25 tram cars. Each car can carry up to 400 passengers at a time. The cars in the tram will be divided into three categories: "gold", "silver" and for women and children. When the project starts at full capacity, it will be able to carry up to 5 thousand passengers per hour.
