In Dubai, a police officer is caught stealing money from an undercover cop

A Dubai police officer is suspected of stealing money from several detainees and another police officer who worked undercover.

A 24-year-old policeman of Yemeni descent from Dubai, who was involved in identifying bootleggers and people illegally crossing the border, appeared before a trial court. He was caught stealing money from another police officer who was undercover.

It is reported that a police officer was charged with the theft of 100 dirhams ($ 27.2) from a colleague who was in the hands of the police in a bootlegging case last November.

The defendant denied the allegations in court.

However, during the interrogation, he admitted that he had stolen money from another police officer, adding that he had also appropriated the cash of other detainees.

The police lieutenant said that the service became aware that the accused could steal money from people detained for bootlegging, so two officers were involved as “bait” to verify the information.

“We handed over to the disguised officers 655 dirhams ($ 181) and instructed the defendant to park in the parking lot near the hotel in Oud Al Mutteena along with other officers, where they were supposed to detain workers involved in the illegal trade in alcohol,” the lieutenant testified.

Later, the officer discovered in the Main Department of Criminal Investigation that he had lost 100 dirhams that had been found from the suspect.

The hearing was adjourned until January 29.
