Austrian Airlines celebrates its 15th anniversary in Dubai

In March of this year, the Austrian Airlines Austrian Airlines celebrated the 15th anniversary of its successful operation in Dubai.

The first flight from Vienna to Dubai was carried out on March 27, 1996 on a Boeing 737 narrow-body passenger jet. After that, flights from Vienna to Dubai were carried out once a week. Over time, the demand for this flight increased to such an extent that flights along this route began to operate daily. Today, Austrian Airlines passengers travel to Dubai from Vienna and back on comfortable Boeing 767 aircraft.

“We are very pleased that our successful work in Dubai has been going on for 15 years,” said Christina Debba, vice president of international sales, “Flights to Dubai are an extremely important direction for the airline in its strategy to develop the Middle East market.”

It should be noted that Austrian Airlines, together with the regional Tyrolean Airways and charter Lauda Air units, serves about 130 destinations. The home port is Vienna International Airport and Innsbruck Kranebitten International Airport.

The airline was created on September 30, 1957, the first flight took place on March 31, 1958 with a flight on the route Vienna - Zurich - London. The first domestic flights began on May 1, 1963. The airline’s first transatlantic flight took place on April 1, 1969 on the route Vienna - Brussels - New York.

Since 2010, 100% of Austrian Airlines shares have been owned by OLH Osterreichische Luftverkehrs-Holding-GmbH. The staff is 8,468 people.

Since November 2010, Austrian Airlines began flights to Mumbai with a frequency of 5 flights per week. From June 2011 Austrian Airlines will begin flights to Baghdad with a frequency of 3 flights a week, and from October 2011 it will increase to 4 flights a week to Baghdad.
