Construction of the Dubai metro green line is on schedule

The Dubai Roads and Transport Committee (RTA) has begun testing alarm and security systems for the long-awaited Dubai Metro green line. According to the RTA official, at the moment, the check of the green line railway tracks has been completed and trial runs of empty metro trains along its entire length have begun. Contractors are completing the construction and decoration of the stations.

Recall that the "green" line of the Dubai Metro is the second stage of its construction. Today, only the red line is operating in the emirate. After the commissioning of the second line, the total length of the subway railway will be 76 km.

The existing “red” line, which is 52.1 km long, connects such districts as Al Rashidiya and the Jebel Ali Free Zone. A 23 km green line will run from the Al Qusais area next to the Emirates Road to Al Jaddaf next to the Business Bay Crossing, spanning busy business districts like Deira and Bar Dubai.

Recall that the "red" line of the Dubai Metro was launched on September 9, 2009. It is expected that the "green" will be launched in August 2011 instead of March, as was previously planned. The "green" line will have 18 stations - 12 ground and 6 underground.

The interchange stations of the two lines will be Union Square (Concorde Square, Deira) and Khalid Bin Al Waleed (Khalid bin Al Walid Street, Bar Dubai). About 7.9 of the 23 km of the green line pass underground. The green line will be served by 17 metro trains. The total number of trains on both lines, including 62 trains of the red line, when it starts operating at full capacity, will be 79.
