UAE Central Bank: credit card details of many customers stolen

The personal data of customers of some banks from the United Arab Emirates fell into the hands of attackers.

The Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates has instructed some financial institutions to inform their customers about theft of credit card information.

"Please note that this information has been compromised. Contact the persons indicated in the attached list if they are your customers and take the necessary steps to withdraw the relevant credit cards," the circular sent by the UAE Central Bank to local and foreign banks reads. other financial institutions operating in the UAE.

Sources told the Khaleej Times that they were stealing data from 250 Dubai customers. However, the names of issuing banks are not mentioned.

The circular sent to banks on November 29, 2017 contains credit card numbers, email addresses, and mobile numbers of affected customers.

According to the Khaleej Times, some UAE residents began sharing stories on the Reditt site about cases of card fraud that they encountered in shopping centers, at gas stations, and when paying in online stores.

Residents were advised not to share credit card information and PIN numbers with employees of gas stations, shopping centers and anyone else on the Internet. Banks advise changing PINs for security reasons.
