New road will reduce congestion between Dubai and Sharjah

The new road between Dubai and Sharjah will double the throughput of the highway.

Next year, the route between Dubai and the Emirate of Sharjah will be reduced with the completion of a new road that will double the throughput of the highway.

A project worth $ 54.4 million will be ready by August next year, local authorities said. It will include a three-lane exit on the Emirate Road in the direction of Sharjah, extended departures in the direction of the emirates of Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah, as well as additional lanes in the direction of Dubai from Sharjah to Maleiha Road.

Ahmad Al Hammadi, director of the road department of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, said the project was 60 percent complete. According to him, this will increase the throughput at the intersection between Emirates Road and Maleiha Road from 9 thousand cars to 17.7 thousand per hour.

Currently, the Emirates road and other major roads connecting Dubai and Sharjah - Ittihad Road, Mohammad Bin Zayed Road, Airport Tunnel / Beirut Street - are overloaded with traffic jams, as a large number of people living and working in the neighboring emirates are returning home.

Dubai's Roads and Transportation Authority is currently building a 12-kilometer extension Tripoli Road connecting Mohammed Bin Zayed Road with Emirates Road.
