Dubai police cannot find the owner of the lost bag of money

A lost bag with 46 thousand dollars is waiting for its owner at the Dubai Police Lost and Found.

A bag with Venezuelan currency totaling $ 46,000 is stored at the Dubai Police Lost and Found Office - its owner has never applied for it.

According to Colonel Rashid Bin Safwan, the head of the department, up to 80 percent of items received by the police remain unclaimed, despite the fact that most of these items are valuable.

Among such things lost and remaining in the bureau are electronic devices and documents, such as identity cards, driver’s licenses and passports, as well as the currencies of different countries. The report said that the places where these items were mostly found were hotels and shopping centers. The Office of Roads and Transport (RTA) also transfers the found items.

Last year, about 9 thousand items were transferred to the Dubai police. About 50 percent of them were sent to management and 20 percent found their owners. Three months later, unclaimed items were put up for auction, and money and documents were transferred to the appropriate authorities.

Bin Safwan added that the owner of the missing item has the right to demand his return within 15 years, except in cases where the items are sold at public auction. If they are sold at auction, the owner is compensated for the estimated value of the goods.
