Dubai Administration Allocates Free Parking Spaces For Electric Cars

In Dubai, owners of an environmentally friendly mode of transport are provided with free parking spaces at paid parking lots of the city.

The Dubai Traffic and Transportation Authority (RTA) has allocated free parking spaces for electric car owners. Thus, the residents of Dubai have another excellent reason to switch to an environmentally friendly mode of transport.

On Tuesday, the RTA announced the provision of 70 free parking spaces for an environmentally friendly mode of transport in 40 paid parking lots in the city.

First of all, the initiative with free parking is aimed at encouraging the use of environmentally friendly cars and is part of Dubai's environmentally friendly transport strategy aimed at reducing exhaust emissions.

Earlier in 2018, the department already allocated about 220 free parking spaces for electric cars.

In addition to free parking, there are a number of bonuses for car owners with electric motors, such as cancellation of registration fees and free “Salik” stickers.

The environmentally friendly transport development program also includes replacing 50 percent of city taxis with gasoline engines with electric cars by 2021. Currently, about 20 percent of taxis use hybrid engines.

Ms. Maifa Bin Adai, head of the RTA Traffic Department, said: “We have provided 70 parking spaces for environmentally friendly transport in 40 paid parking lots in the city. The goal of the department is to equip free parking spaces in parking lots in the busiest places in Dubai. In particular, I'm talking about business districts of the city, the World Trade Center, Burj Khalifa, Marina, Jumeirah and Sheikh Zayed Highways. "

Special parking spaces are outlined in green, the maximum permissible parking time and fines for parking violations are shown on the site.

Only eco-friendly cars can occupy these parking spaces; the parking period is limited to four hours.
