Kingdom of Oman finally introduces electronic visas

Now, to visit the kingdom of Oman, you need to get an electronic visa.

Since March 2018, the Government of Oman has decided to cancel the issuance of entry visas upon arrival, but only now the decision has finally entered into force.

Previously, a trip to a neighboring state could be organized literally at the last minute. Now, preparing for the trip will take longer, because for a trip to Oman you need to get an electronic visa (eVisa).

The first thing you need to do to get an electronic visa to Oman is to go to //evisa.rop.gov.om/en/apply-for-a-visa and register there. To register, you must fill in the fields of the online form, such as passport number, date of birth and citizenship. After registration, you need to log in using your username and password.

On the main page, the option of applying for a visa without sponsorship (unsponsored visa) is selected. Citizens of more than 70 countries, including China, are eligible for such a visa, Of Russia, India, Australia, Canada, USA and Schengen states. Residents of other countries must specify a sponsor from among Omani citizens.

Recall that to visit Oman, a visa is still not required for citizens of the following countries: Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates.

In the drop-down menu on the website you need to choose your citizenship, it is also necessary to indicate whether the applicant is a resident of the country of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Persian Gulf.

When you click "Next", the system will redirect to a page on which you will be asked to select the type of visa required. At the end of June, the kingdom introduced a new short-term visa for 10 days. You can also apply for a monthly or annual visa.

After filling out the questionnaire, you will be asked to attach all the necessary documents. The list of these documents may include a copy of your passport, a visa entitling you to stay in the country of the Gulf Cooperation Council, as well as any previously issued visas to Oman, hotel reservations, if any, and a photograph. File size should not exceed 512 KB. Valid file format: PDF and JPEG.

Then the system will display a summary of the application and offer to fill out a questionnaire for another traveler. After checking all the fields, you need to click the "send and proceed to payment" button, where payment information is entered. The cost of a short-term visa is 5 Omani rials (about 48 dirhams), a monthly visa will cost 20 riyals (about 191 dirhams).

The application will be assigned a number by which it will be possible to track the status of visa preparedness. After the application has been considered, a notification will be sent by email and SMS.

UAE residents, who have already applied for a visa on the eve of Eid al-Adha, said that obtaining a visa took only three to eight hours.
