Dubai, UAE. 2019 is officially declared the Year of Tolerance in the United Arab Emirates. This decision was made by the government, based on the vision of the founder and first president of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, about the openness of the state to representatives of all religions and nationalities.

A number of events will be held during the year that will be aimed at enhancing the role of the UAE in strengthening stability and increasing the level of well-being in the region. The news came out a few days after the announcement of a visit to the UAE by Pope Francis, scheduled for February 2019.

“The values of tolerance and their instilling are the basis of Sheikh Zayed’s teachings. This is one of the most important values that we can instill in the people and the global community in order to ensure the safety, sustainable development and happiness of people around the world,” said His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Ben Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, also noted that tolerance underlies the development of modern society and is one of the tools to expand the capabilities of civilization and ensure the prosperity of nations.

Recall that a year earlier, the UAE Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai, passed Law No. 9 of 2017 on the Establishment of the International Institute of Tolerance, which, among other things, established the “Tolerance Award” of Mohammed Ibn Rashid Al Maktoum, regulated by law, whose status is fixed by the institute.
