Over the past year, fines for millions of dirhams have been forgiven to expatriates in the UAE

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates abolished multimillion-dollar fines to foreigners during an amnesty last year.

88% of illegal immigrants who took advantage of the UAE amnesty program, which lasted from August 1 to December 31, 2018, received positive answers. They were allowed to leave the UAE without paying fines and litigation.

Authorities reported in the new year that during the five-month amnesty in the UAE, fines of millions of dirhams for thousands of people, including families and children, were canceled.

The amnesty also allowed resident status adjustments to remain in the UAE. Some applicants received a six-month visa and were able to start looking for work with it.

Authorities will continue to raise awareness among emigrants about the negative consequences of violating the rules of residence in the country.

UAE residents and companies are also strongly advised to avoid sheltering or employing illegal immigrants.

According to the authorities, those who stayed illegally in the country after the end of the amnesty period are facing fines, imprisonment and deportation.
