2019 Abu Dhabi Culture Summit Announced

The 2019 Culture Summit in Abu Dhabi announces the theme and details of the program.

Dubai, UAE. The cultural summit will be held from April 7 to 11, the organizer is the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi. The theme of the event, which is held with partners from the Guggenheim, Royal Academy of Arts, UNESCO, Economist Events, and Google, is "Cultural Responsibility and New Technology"

The Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has announced the details of the program for the third Culture Summit in Abu Dhabi, which will be held from April 7 to 11 in the center of Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi.

Under the theme “Cultural Responsibility and New Technologies”, together with five partners who represent important sectors in the fields of art, media, cultural heritage, museums and technologies, a program was developed that included peer discussions, presentations, and interactive seminars and networking events.

The theme of this Summit reflects current trends, considering how cultural agents can more actively participate in solving global problems and how to use creativity and technology to launch positive changes and achieve positive results.

Cooperation partners are the Economist Events, which will present the opinions of specialists in the field of mass media and dissemination of information in the world community; UNESCO, which will study the most important issues of cultural heritage, including actions in the event of crises and conflicts; The Royal Academy of Arts, which in response to the theme of the Summit will study world visual culture, architecture and monumental art; The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation, which will study how museums can determine the future of culture and what they can offer a way to research in order to see the cultural past through the prism of the present; and Google, which will explore the impact of technology on art, culture, and the media.

"The Third Culture Summit aims to continue to move forward, not stopping at the successes we have achieved over the past two years, in partnership with respected world leaders in relevant areas of cultural consciousness and intellectual development," said His Excellency Muhammad Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi. "The program is exploring how the cultural forces of art, cultural and historical heritage, the media and technology can be used to achieve tangible, positive changes in the context of our increasingly globalizing and rapidly changing society."

“The Summit will examine some of the most pressing cultural issues - topics that concern us all - starting with how we see the world around us and ending with how we can manifest ourselves; starting with the true impact of technology on our lives and ending with ways to protect and preserve culture during conflicts. The series will be moderated by the artistic director of the Royal Academy of Arts, Tim Marlow, who will discuss with leading artists, architects and curators issues such as the legitimacy of monumental art, fame and popularity against populism, and freedom of expression.

Cultural heritage is the central theme of the Summit. UNESCO will address the challenges and opportunities associated with safeguarding cultural heritage in emergencies, including both armed conflict and disaster, and the use of new technologies to protect heritage during emergencies, post-crisis rehabilitation and reconstruction.

Lazar Eloundou, Director of Culture and Emergency Situations of UNESCO, will hold meetings with experts and experts in the field of cultural heritage from the Middle East, South America and Africa, including: Ann-Marie Afais, director of the National Museum of Beirut; Ali Ould Sidi, Advisor to the Ministry of Culture of Mali; and ALIF Executive Director Valerie Freland.

John Pridox, the American editor of The Economist, will spearhead discussions regarding the changing media position and the role that information plays in our growing global community. The following topics will be discussed at the seminars: methods of survival for traditional media in the era of technology, how the media can lead to change, the explosion of the "world" of social networks, as well as innovation and new frontiers in the media space.

Speakers will be representatives of both traditional and new media, including: Jason Livi, Managing Director of MENA at VICE Media and Editor-in-Chief of The National Magazine, Mina Al-Oribee.

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation will hold discussions on the role of museums in shaping future culture. Moderators Richard Armstrong, Director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation, and Alexandra Munro, Samsung's Senior Asian Art Curator and Senior Art Advisor, Guggenheim Museum; The acting director of curatorship of the Guggenheim project in Abu Dhabi will attract speakers from Brazil, Canada, Hong Kong and Indonesia to consider the following questions: how museums can liven up the past in our present, how a new audience will shape our new museums , and how museums can most effectively and creatively take advantage of the digital age.

Google has partnered with the Culture Summit to uncover the deepest aspects of digital culture and the role of technology in art, cultural heritage and the media. The technology giant will hold workshops on the following topics: Street View 360, Google Cardboard, and Google News Lab. Activation at the facility will include Tilt Brush 3D drawing, Google Daydream virtual reality platform, as well as life-size arts and replicas of cultural samples.

The Abu Dhabi Cultural Summit is a unique global platform that brings together leaders in art, cultural heritage, media, museums, government and technology to identify ways in which culture can play a key role in raising awareness of global issues, building cultural bridges and fostering positive change.
