Every third couple in the UAE gets divorced in the first year of marriage

A new study showed that in one of three cases, couples in the United Arab Emirates divorced in the first year of marriage.

According to a new report published by the Abu Dhabi Statistics Center (ADSC) on Sunday, July 14, almost 30% of divorces in the UAE in 2018 occurred in the first year of marriage.

A study by the Center also found that 62.2% of divorces occur during the first four years of marriage.

The ADSC report also revealed that mixed marriages between emirates and foreigners accounted for 21.7% of the total number of registered marriages in 2018. It is mainly about marriages with citizens of the Persian Gulf states and Arab countries.

The largest number of divorces in 2018 was recorded during July, and in August the smallest (total 105).

The average age at marriage for men is 27.7 years, and for women 24.6 years.

More than half (59%) of Abu Dhabi emirate over the age of 15 years were married, 35% of citizens were never married, and 6% of emirates were either divorced or widowed.
