Dubai, UAE. In the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, a beauty contest among dates began - it was officially opened by His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Sakr Al Kassimi, ruler of the emirate and member of the UAE Supreme Council. He noted that the contest is a great opportunity to support local farmers.
The ruler said that farmers play a key role for the country in ensuring food security and developing the agricultural sector. “The date palm is a blessing and part of the UAE’s cultural heritage,” said Sheikh Saud.
It is worth recalling that July is the ripening season for dates in the UAE. The largest festival dedicated to this fruit is traditionally held in Liv - it will last until July 26.
