Fake cops in the UAE

United Arab Emirates police warned of fake officers appearing on the streets.

UAE police issued a warning about the increasing number of crimes in the emirate of Sharjah with the participation of people who impersonate law enforcement officials.

Incidents occur mainly in industrial areas. False police officers threaten the victims - as a rule, ordinary workers - with deportation, and then commit crimes against them: robbery, extortion, rape.

Between January and June, police reported 20 such cases. Incidents always occurred late in the evening, and the victims were mostly people who ended up in industrial zones alone. The fake cops had fake photo IDs with them.

Sharjah police have warned that people who pretend to be policemen and other civil servants are punished by imprisonment of up to five years.

The police also recalls that true police officers, in accordance with the law, can only request an identity card, driver’s license and vehicle registration card. Under no circumstances can police ask for a person’s personal belongings. The criminals take advantage of the ignorance of the victims of the Arabic language and law.
