At the end of the 19th century, Kokichi Mikimoto developed a unique technology for growing cultured pearls. However, only five out of a hundred pearls obtained are used to make jewelry at Mikimoto. This one of a kind cascading Pearl Streams necklace consists of 1,545 Akoya pearls strung on 12 graduated threads, each representing a decade of Mikimoto history. The center of the necklace is decorated with a diamond brooch and a pearl of the South Seas.
