Tiziana Terenzi: the candle is burning!

The Terenzi clan is ancient, its history goes back to the origins of the Roman Empire and the legends of the Egyptian god of heaven and light, Horace. The name itself comes from the words "tres" and "enses", which in translation from Latin means "three swords".

Speaking to Paolo, we saw in him a man of subtle, creative, artistic - a true leader of a fashion brand!

Paolo, tell us more about the Terenzi family.

The playwright Pablius Terentius Afer, who worked in the middle of the XIV century, as well as the alchemist Gabriel Terenzi, who died in 1450, have a written mention of our ancestors. For centuries, Terenzi was famous as scientists, travelers, artists and inventors.

My grandfather Guglielmo was a philosopher and poet. His inquiring mind was looking for answers to the eternal questions of being: what is harmony and beauty. Next to him was always my grandmother Luigia, who supported her husband in all endeavors. The fragile but very practical Luigia remade a small room in her house into a laboratory, where my grandfather began to search for the most unusual aroma formulas. He liked the smell of earth and natural notes. Grandfather’s talent and passion for art was transferred to our father Evelino: he played the clarinet, loved mechanics and was creative in not only creating perfumes, but also equipment for its production.

Gradually, he transformed his grandfather's workshop so much that on this basis it became possible to start a family business. Of course, my sister and I have a tremendous responsibility for the reputation and heritage of our family, so we are so attentive to every element of the Tiziana Terenzi brand. I do not represent the company and not one of its products without my sister, we are one, and without this mutual contribution, the Tiziana Terenzi brand would be different. I am the "nose" of the company responsible for aromas, Titian is the designer, her sphere is the image of the company.

I am a big fan of candles, and I am very pleased that you brought the stylish Tiziana Terenzi candles to Dubai.

Thank you To create Dama candles, we used a special potion, exclusive to this series only. Masterfully executed design follows the traditions of applied art. On the candle you can see the wax carving, which fully meets the requirements of the Italian school. All candles are made by hand. Dama burns for about 150 hours, while all sides of the candle remain intact.

When the candle burns out, it can be used as an extravagant pot for plants or an elegant glass for pencils.

In the Lafayette Galleries department store, your brand is represented not only by a magnificent collection of scented candles, but also by four new scents of the “x Te” series. What does this mean?

Literally, "x Te" means "for you." All four fragrances - Ecstasy, XIX March, White Fire and Gold Rose Oudh - are dedicated to our father Evelino Terenzi. These are very personal flavors. I was always fascinated by the powerful energy of fire: it connects us with the forces of nature.

These four perfumes represent different flames. White Fire is silent, so White Fire is the sensual aroma of a newly born flame. On the contrary, XIX March is full of colors and freshness. The theme of fire is present at the feast of St. Giuseppe's Day, the protector of the poor and disadvantaged, which in Italy is celebrated on March 19.

A bonfire is always burned at a public feast, so this aroma reminds me of the smell of snow and a bonfire. Ecstasy was created after the death of my father, when I had to grow up dramatically. The initial notes of the fragrance seem to plunge a person into shock, and then move on to “matured”, calm notes of maturity. It was painful for me to lose my father, but when I look at the fire, the pain is ashes.

Paolo, you didn’t immediately join the family business. Why?

After graduating from university, I became a professional guitarist, and then continued my education in the field of philosophy and law.

But in 1994, he nevertheless decided to join the family business and create fragrances with his father. His presence and instructions inspired me to new experiments in the field of perfumery. My self-expression is always associated with music, it helps me a lot in the art of a perfumer. Everything is similar here: there are notes, chords, harmony and melody.

You are a fan of jazz. Tell me, with what directions do you associate perfume?

Jazz is a catalyst for emotions, so I would say that XIX March is a bebop, which is characterized by a fast pace and difficult improvisations. White Fire is a cooljazz and emotional restraint peculiar to it. Gold Rose Oudh for me is like "Dixieland" or traditional New Orleans jazz, which incorporates African folklore and is based on collective improvisation. Ecstasy is undoubtedly frigaz, the most experimental, innovative direction. It allows you to maximize the intellectual and sensual components of music, and sometimes even tries to return jazz to its ethnic roots.
