French President attends the opening ceremony of the Louvre Abu Dhabi

Emmanuel Macron will attend the official opening ceremony of the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi.

Emmanuel Macron, President of France, will visit the UAE to attend the opening ceremony of the Louvre Abu Dhabi.

The president’s visit will be held from November 8 to 9. The museum will open to the public on November 11th.

The Louvre was built in accordance with an intergovernmental agreement signed between the UAE and France in 2007, which includes transferring the name of the Louvre to 30 years and six months, holding temporary exhibitions for 15 years and transferring temporary works of art for 10 years.

To date, the museum has acquired more than 620 works of art, including important works provided by 13 leading institutions in France.

The Louvre Abu Dhabi was designed by the French architect Jean Nouvel, a Pritzker Prize laureate.

Visitors to the Louvre Museum on Saadiyat Island will be able to stroll along the promenade overlooking the sea under the 180-meter dome of the museum, consisting of almost 8 thousand unique metal stars folded in an exquisite geometric pattern. When sunlight penetrates through them, an active “light rain” effect is created under the dome resembling palm trees in the UAE oases.

Along with galleries, the museum will have exhibitions, a children's museum, a restaurant, a boutique and a cafe.
