Emirate Designers Dress Up Dubai Expo 2020 Volunteers

Emirate designers are working on a uniform for more than 30,000 volunteers for the upcoming Dubai Expo 2020.

Three designer brands from the UAE are fighting for the right to create a uniform for more than 30,000 volunteers at the upcoming Dubai Expo 2020.

The By Laha brands, represented by designers Hamda Abbas, Sarah Mustafa and Zainab Alshaykh, entered the final of the competition; Arshys led by designer Arshia Alam Khan; as well as Twisted Roots, founded by Latifa Al-Gurg.

The collection includes jackets, hats, bags, ties, scarves, kandurs, goutra, abaya and sheila.

Participants were evaluated by designers, fashion experts and representatives of Expo 2020. Three finalists received 50 thousand dirhams ($ US 13.6 thousand). They presented sample outfits at the Expo 2020 Volunteer House.

"The first Expo 2020 in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia will offer an invaluable opportunity to showcase our creativity, values ​​and traditions to the world," said Hayat Shamsuddin, vice president of arts and culture, content at Expo 2020.

From October 2020 to April 2021, thousands of volunteers will serve a total of 1.2 million shifts. It is expected that this will become one of the largest volunteer programs in the world.
