Russian ballet stars performed for the first time in Doha, Qatar

On October 26, 2012, the Doha National Congress Center hosted for the first time a tour of world ballet stars “Russian Seasons of the 21st Century”, organized by the Maris Liepa Charitable Foundation, the Russian state-owned company Gazprom and the Olympic City group of companies with the support of the Russian Embassy in Qatar. One of the most prestigious cultural events was organized by the Dubai company M Premiere.

As part of the concert program, pieces from the ballets The Nutcracker and Swan Lake by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky were performed; classical excerpts from the ballets Figaro, Cleopatra, Giselle and Don Quixote performed by soloists of the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theaters, the Kremlin Ballet and the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater, outstanding Russian and foreign dancers.

The initiator of the project "Russian Seasons of the XXI Century" was the world-famous performer and choreographer Andris Liepa. “This is our first trip to Qatar, and it is a great honor to present our performances to such an exquisite society. We have a very diverse repertoire and our dancers have demonstrated the highest skill on stage. We hope that the audience also enjoyed the meeting with us and We look forward to a new tour in Qatar, "said Andris Liepa. It is worth recalling that "Russian Seasons of the 21st Century" is an attempt to revive the life of the legendary "Russian Seasons" by Sergey Diaghilev, who at the beginning of the 20th century presented great Russian art in major European capitals. Each season wrote a new page in the annals of world culture. At different times, representatives of the Russian aristocracy took part in them, including Benoit, Serov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Rachmaninov, Chaliapin and many others.

The first round of the revived Russian Seasons took place in 2009 in Paris and was timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the creation of the Russian Ballet by Sergei Diaghilev. In September 2011, a tour of the ballet troupe took place in Abu Dhabi, at the Emirates Palace Hotel (Emirates Palace). Their continuation was a performance in Qatar - the famous center of festivals and cultural events of the Middle East.
